EDITOR’S LETTER
The Illuminar team is happy to announce our upcoming launch of a completely new series called “The Change Agents”. This series will focus on perspectives and experience sharing from change agents, on specific topics in the form of podcasts, videos etc. These change agents have led business outcomes and accelerated the pace of innovation within their enterprise as well as with their ecosystem.
Change is indeed the new normal for enterprise success. Recognizing the need for change and controlling its execution is imperative, though easier said than done. With the incredible pace of change led by digital, the senior management in enterprises are increasingly changing the lens with which they are viewing enterprise talent. Talent gap identification in this context and fulfilling the gap has now become a key business priority.
How do enterprises identify the talent gap and put in place a step by step action to plug it? The topic of this month is “Bridging the Digital Talent Gap”. Digital talent is not only about technical skills but goes much beyond permeating business processes, to deal with the new requirements brought about by changing customer expectations. As a famous quote goes “Even in such technical lines as engineering, about 15% of one’s financial success is due one’s technical knowledge and about 85% is due to skill in human engineering, to personality and the ability to lead people.”
Technical skills and business skills are no longer considered in isolation. In order to even devise a digital vision and execute, enterprises are scaling their people and hiring talent with a strong functional knowledge and orientation of digital skills in the context of business value. What is interesting is that the sourcing of digital skills is no longer only a Human Resources function – rather it is on the agenda of senior management.
This edition has a podcast interview feature with Mr. Vijay Sethi. Vijay is on the senior leadership team of Hero Motocorp, the world’s largest manufacturer of two wheelers based in India. Vijay is the Chief Information Officer and Head of CSR. He also leads innovation efforts and is on the Board of M/s HMC MM Auto. Vijay shares some interesting perspectives on what digital skills are required in today’s world, how enterprises are identifying the talent gap and what they are doing to plug the gap.
We’re committed to delivering a completely fresh Illuminar experience from the next edition onwards, rich with new features. As always, we look forward to your feedback and comments.
