EDITOR’S LETTER
Say Hello to Illuminar, The Digital Enterprise Digest
Today’s business environment is characterized by intense demands from customers and internal users. And there is constant pressure on companies to demonstrate value creation that has a perceivable impact on business users. In order to serve customers better, key stakeholders in an enterprise need to be able to take quick decisions backed by information that is readily available and that be relied on. Most enterprises therefore want to focus on “Decision Support” capabilities with less effort and investment in “Transaction Processing”.
While the concept of shared services (SSC) is not a new one, it continues to evolve. Shared services as a business model has delivered impressive results for companies. The model has transcended and positively impacted all key business priorities including cost, quality, productivity, customer service and sales. Since the shared services model is here to stay, agile businesses are innovating and scaling with planned and progressive shared service business implementation road-maps.
Organizations are re-thinking beyond just focus on cost reduction and process improvements, as they are now expected to have anyway got this right from a transaction processing standpoint. Several are looking for ways to do more with less – getting the maximum output with minimum input. Mature shared service centres are strongly considering how shared services can support in bringing innovation in service delivery with the help of technology and how they can balance the dichotomy between commoditization vs. rigidity impeding change / growth.
This edition features interviews with two highly proficient experts in this field – Narendrra Arora, Vice President, Global Business Shared Services of Piramal Enterprises and Premal Vasavada, who heads the GMR Group’s Shared Services Business Unit, who have shared some riveting insights into the future of shared services, some innovations that it is expected to deliver and how mature enterprises decide the best approach between outsourcing and setting up of their internal SSC amongst other topics.
We hope you enjoy this edition. As always, we look for your feedback. Please do write to me directly.
Have a lovely day!
